God Had a Different Plan

Updated: Jul 11, 2022

Some think my story starts with Julian. Julian is my baby who made me a mommy at 17. I had never had sex. Let alone, given birth... My sister (we'll call her T, because I have four) had given birth to Julian in October 2009. She planned to be a great mother. I hadn't talked to her in months (maybe a couple years) when she told my mom and me that she

was pregnant. We went to go see her when she gave birth to Julian. She was homeless, so she moved back in with my mom after she gave birth. We lived in a trailer that was falling apart (this is a story for another day)... Any how, when Julian was four months old (Feb 2010) T decided she was going to move to Dallas, TX with our sister C. T told my mom and me that she would come back to get him when she was settled with her hud (housing), foodstamps, and CCMS (childcare). Long story short, she moved back a month or two later and didn't even tell us until June of 2010. T came and took Julian from us. We were taking care of him for eight months, pretty much since the day he was born; but we weren't legally his guardian. There was nothing we could do. So she picked him up... Turned out Julian's biological father was out of jail and T wanted to have her perfect little family together. It didn't last long.

One hot day in July (or August) of 2010, C went to check on T. C stated that T had left MY little baby in the HOT car ALONE. No air and the windows rolled up. It was 90 degrees that day... C went into great detail how she pulled Julian's baby body out of the car and he was soaking wet, not from water, but from the sweat of his own little body. To this day, I still don't know how he survived, but I can agree that C saved him. It just reminds me how he is destined for great things. I'm not sure what yet, but I know he is meant to be here. God has a calling for him. I remember vividly sitting in my mom's office listening to the anonymous report C made to CPS on T and she informed them of what happened. CPS requested a hair follicle drug test for both Julian and T. They both tested positive. CPS then removed Julian from T. That afternoon I had the first volleyball game of my senior year. I went with my team, so I wasn't sure what was happening with my family in those exact moments. But after my first serve of the game, I looked up in the stands and smiled as I saw my little Julian's big brown eyes and sweet smile. Thankfully, he was finally in my mother’s arms. From that day forward he was mine. Little did I know I would really become his mommy. It wasn't my plan. I had plans to go off, leave this little town, and do what young people do. God had a different plan and he knew my instincts would kick in to protect Julian.
